You can love vintage music without wanting your wedding to look like everybody has accidentally wandered onto a film set.
That distinction matters.
For some couples, a full 1940s, 1950s or Art Deco theme is exactly the dream. For others, it is the atmosphere they love: the clothes, the harmonies, the glamour, the warmth and the sense that the entertainment has a little more character than pressing play on a playlist.
Vintage does not have to mean themed
The easiest way to use vintage wedding entertainment well is to treat it as part of the personality of the day rather than a rule everyone has to follow.
You might have a completely modern venue, contemporary flowers and no vintage styling anywhere else, then bring in close-harmony singers during the drinks reception. The contrast can actually make the entertainment feel even more special.
The same applies to the music. A set can include genuine vintage favourites alongside songs your guests know from much later decades. It gives you the flavour of vintage entertainment without forcing the entire wedding into one era.
Where does live vintage music work best during a wedding?
One of our favourite things about wedding singing is that it does not have to live in one fixed part of the day.
The ceremony
Close harmony can make an entrance, signing or exit song feel very personal, especially when the arrangement is softer and more intimate.
The drinks reception
This is often a brilliant fit. Guests are moving around, chatting, taking photos and settling into the day, so live singers can create atmosphere without asking everybody to stop what they are doing and watch a formal performance.
The wedding breakfast
Music between courses or around speeches can lift the room and help bridge that slightly odd gap between the formal part of the day and the evening celebration.
Mix old songs with newer ones
This is probably the easiest way to stop vintage entertainment feeling like a museum piece.
A set can move from swing and jazz into familiar pop, rock or romantic songs arranged with a retro feel. Your grandparents might recognise one song immediately, your friends know the next one, and suddenly the whole room has something to latch onto.
You can see the kind of mix we use on our songs and repertoire page.
Choose entertainment that still feels like you
The best wedding entertainment should add to the day, not take it over.
If you love vintage style, close harmony and live vocals, use those things. You do not need matching crockery, ration books and a dress code to justify it.
